The Numbers
Visitors During its initial launch period, the website had seen 101,891 visitors between Sunday, June 9, 1996 and Tuesday, 3 November 1998. This is a counter that was activated every time the main index page was loaded. Therefore it denotes actual visitors, and not 'hits' (where every file, including images, are counted). The counter did not include, however, visits through links made directly to a page within the site, bypassing the main index page. Currently, the Virtual Library averages about 55 percent of the 6,000 or more visitors who come to the GDRC website every day. See 'What's New' page for latest web access statistics
Membership More than 2,000 members from 130 countries now receive Updates on new items added in the website, and other information. This is sent via email every month. Since the start of GDRC's Virtual Programme, more than 35 virtual fellows have contributed to the VLM. Updating The website is updated almost everyday, or every other day. This constitutes about 15-20 hours a week on updating, adding, editing and cleaning the files. Links There were more than 769 links to external internet resources in the homepage. The total number of files within the website, as of Monday, 15 September 2008, was 2,405 in 76 folders. The total size of all files in the homepage was 85.1 mb.
