ommonly called pedal power technology, energy generation from bicycles transfers human muscle power to a useable energy source though the use of a crank system. It has been usued for transportation for a very long time, but more recently, it has been used for th generation of electricity, particularly to charge batteries or run a generator.

Some examples of pedal-powered technologies include'

  • charging batteries by pedalling a stationary bicucle
  • Pedal powered laptops
  • Operating tools and agricultural implements
  • Use of bicycles to run water wells for pumping
  • Water-purification system using bicycle (see video below)
