As the experience of a microcredit programme in group formation increased, the ideal characteristics of a workable group formation strategy emerged - small size, voluntary participation, high initial intervention of an external agency such as an NGO, economic and social homogeneity, effective/decentralized/democratic participation, basic knowledge in literacy and numeracy etc.
