    Comparative Perspectives on Micro-Credit and Micro-Enterprises
    South Asia Program, Cornell University

    This workshop will examine the factors that have influenced the successes and failures of micro-credit and micro-enterprise programs in Latin America and South Asia. The workshop will address alternative forms of credit and work and how they coincide with the transformation of the world economy, the reorganization of the labor market, and the increased attention paid to processes of informalization. It will also examine how these programs and development strategies provide new opportunities for economic redistribution and growth, household survival, and social stability.

    Performance and Standards in Microfinance - One Day Seminar on the CAMEL Instrument
    At this seminar ACCION will present its latest Discussion Paper Performance and Standards in Microfinance: ACCION�s Experience with the CAMEL Instrument by Sonia Saltzman, Rachel Rock, and Darcy Salinger. Presentations will include: Overview of the CAMEL Instrument - a review of the qualitative indicators, quantitative indicators, and CAMEL adjustments to financial statements; ACCION�s Experience with the CAMEL Instrument - an in-depth look at costs and team composition; CAMEL Results for the ACCION Network - a presentation of principal analytical conclusions, challenges, and lessons learned; Challenges Facing the Microfinance Industry - setting standards of financial performance.
