Waste Reduction
Waste from construction and demolition is set to rise over the next 100 years. In some countries, the construction and demolition sector is the highest producer of waste. SBC practices reduce waste which in turn lower costs, reduce the strain on waste disposal depots and virgin resource deposits, reduce energy requirements and the associated pollution, encourage innovation and new markets and business, and lower material consumption. Some SBC techniques to reduce waste include: reusing materials or existing infrastructure, prolonging building life by design, adaptation and/or proper maintenance therefore reducing the need to demolish the building, site planning and design and using recycled materials instead of virgin materials.
